If Linux had the ability to run all PC programs would that have a major impact on Microsoft Windows sales?
I have been running Linux for two months and I like it much better then my Windows XP. My computer doesn’t freeze or crash anymore. I don’t have to worry to much about viruses or spyware on my computer. I would think that Microsoft Would be hurting in sales if linux was able to run all PC applications that windows run.

If linux did start outselling windows it would get a lot more security problems real quick because there would be more incentive to try to hack it.
But, no i don’t think it would have a major impact on windows sales. Windows works great and its what most people know. Linux would need a great advertising campaign to beat windows, not just a great product.

Sure it would eat into MS, and to a degree, it is.
There is a lot of misinformation both ways on Linux. It’s pretty easy these days, good, safe, stable, lots of free software etc, but there’s a lot of fanboy hype.
It *can* be LESS secure than Windows depending on how you set it up. There have been great improvements in ease of installation, but it can still be pretty tricky.
Administering it centrally can be tough, which keeps it out of some businesses.
I always look at it this way, it’s great for basic computer use, and great for programmers and engineers, but would you really want to have to support it when Betty Lou the receptionist is trying to use it.

Wine and Wine Doors can run most Windows programs, and many “Windows” programs come in Linux versions (or there are better Linux programs to do the same job).
Microsoft won’t have to worry about market share for another 25 years or so, unless they make a few more mistakes like Vista and XP SP3.
