I want to be able to switch between using Linux and Windows without overloading or complicating one hard drive. Are there any pitfalls with running different operating systems in seperate hard drives?

I have a DELL Latitude D600 that was passed down to me by my older sister. The XP on it has some bad malware and is generally corrupted. What would be the best Linux version to either replace it , or do a dual boot?
It is about 5 years old.

I know you can download Wine to run Windows games on Linux, but I want to make sure that everything in Linux can be just as good as it is in Windows XP. I’m wondering if networking will ***** up considering the rest of my family runs on Windows… Does that mean no LAN? Stuff like that. I’ll post more details if people need more so check back.

I’m trying out different flavors of linux and some of the iso files (used to create a bootable CD/DVD) are over 4 gigs while others are only 700 megs? Why the big disparity?

I work for a company that does remote connections. We are wanting to put Linux on everyone’s computer for several reasons but we can’t find a software to remotely connect to other computers that have windows. The software we currently use doesn’t support Linux.

I have an old 1gigabite flash drive and I’m wanting to use it to run linux off of. It has plenty of memory on it still and I would like to use it as kind of a portable computer that I can use on different desktops and maybe laptops. I went to download it and found that there are many versions, which one should I use?

I’ve downloaded some distros in the past only to find myself unable to really use Linux for anything worthwhile, so I’d like to avoid that if possible.
